Ivet Escamilla served as the coordinator for the UNLV GeoSymposium 2026. The three-day event, which included student oral and poster presentations, keynote presentations, a career panel, and a field trip, had nearly 200 attendees and brought together students, industry professionals, government officials, academic experts, and members of the community. GeoSymposium is entirely organized by students in the Department of Geoscience and was successfully led by Ivet this year. Outstandingly done!

Eunice Ledres received the Best Oral Presentation Award at the 21st Annual GeoSymposium at UNLV. Congratulations!

Undergraduate student Lillian Cartino presented the results of her independent study research project on the “Comparison of Actual and Potential Evaporation at the SEPHAS Lysimeters” at this years GeoSymposium. Well done!

Congratulations to Eunice Ledres for successfully defending her Master Thesis on “Harnessing Backcasting to Identify Drivers of Critical Warming at Hoover Dam Using Hydrodynamic and Machine Learning Models”!
